You can see better now that it's morning. Note the matching tent and car.

Heading down into Coyote Gulch to Peekaboo Gulch and Spooky Gulch slot canyons.
Huggin' the shade. It's really hot even in the morning.
And really bright too! The entrance into Peekaboo Gulch.

Peekaboo opens up a bit in a few places.
Where'd Tom go?
Peekaboo!
Ruth sinks into the rock waves, never to be seen again.
Oh, there she is.

The tree at the end of Peekaboo Gulch.
That little crack in the middle of the shot is Peekaboo Gulch where we just came out.
We walked a little way across the desert to the upper end of Spooky Gulch. The entrance is to the right. Ruth is making sure a flash flood isn't on the way to kill us in a most horrid fashion.
Upper entrance to Spooky. Note the different texture of the two sides. This is a recurring theme in this slot canyon.
See, it's not all that spooky.
Except for the floating heads.

What did I tell ya.

Parts of Spooky Gulch are uncomfortably unspooky.
There's a bunch of rocks right in the middle of the slot (choke stone). This is the toughest part to get through.
I crawled through this. There's a bit of a drop on the other side, but I landed on my head, so I was okay.
Ruth decided that this wasn't the best way...
...and took the "slide".
The little hole in the middle of the shot is where I came through. The "slide" drops in from the left.
More of the left not matching the right.

When we got to this point we weren't sure if we should go over the top of this or go down into what, at first, looked like a crevice too small for a gerbil to get into.
Gerbil Man heads into the dark crevice not knowing what evils may lay in wait.
It's hard to tell from this and the next shot, but this was a twisting, turning, narrow slide where we would have had less trouble making it through if we'd eaten a smaller breakfast.

It wasn't easy, but we made it through.
Sharp turn

Light

Smooth bottom, rough top
It starts getting narrow right near the end. There were a few places in Spooky, like here, where we had to walk sideways and the walls touched our bellies and our backs.
The canyon attendant waits at the exit, saying "buh-bye" to each person leaving.

His and her lizard restrooms.

The entrance to Spooky Gulch.

Into Coyote gulch Narrows. (The long way back to the car from Spooky.)

Narrow, but not quite so spooky.

Sometimes the rocks make patterns that perplex and confound me.

The end of the narrows.
The very end of the narrows.
A little ridge thingy.
Across the desert back to the car. (Yes, there was a trail.)
Huggin' the shade. It was cooler in the canyons.
You can just make out the canyon we came out of, just past the biscuits in the distance.
The people on the left are coming up the way we went down.
As we hit the road I took one last shot of the natural wonders of the area.
